I will be running self-help courses in Oxford, where you can learn to do simple Brain Gym procedures to help yourself, your family and friends. Please read the following information. If you need more help, please use the link at the bottom of the page.

Course 1 is the official 4-day Brain Gym course for teachers, families and self-development. Next course:  Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th April 2009 and  Saturday 30th & Sunday 31st May 2009 This course provides training in quick, simple, yet powerful techniques which will help children and adults to learn how to improve motivation, memory, concentration, organisation, confidence, reduce stress and help minimise specific learning problems. Participants will learn all the Brain Gym® activities and simple goal setting procedures to improve whole brain / body co-ordination for use in groups and one-to-one. Course 2 is a much shorter course designed specifically for parents. You will learn simple techniques to help your child cope better at school, whether they have specific learning problems, are anxious and unconfident or are generally gifted but need help in fine-tuning a specific area of learning. Course 1: The official 4-day brain Gym course for teachers, families and self-help

This is the officially accredited Professional Foundation Brain Gym course which can be used as credits for your Continuing Professional Development in many professions, as a self-help tool for adults, parents and carers, as well as the foundation stone for further professional training in Brain Gym. It comprises 32 hours of face-to-face training. A further 32 hours of case-studies need to be submitted and marked, using the materials learned on this course, if you wish to complete the full training at this level.

Cost:  £430 per person including manual, other training materials and student membership of UK Brain Gym organisation.

What participants will get out of the 4-day course:

Many children and adults find that they just don't make the progress that their efforts deserve, or that life's challenges seem too great, and lose motivation. The training in Brain Gym offered on this 4-day course will provide adults, parents and educators with quick, simple, yet powerfully effective physical movement techniques which can be used at home for yourself, with your own family, during classes at school, and also in small group situations, and which will help yourself, your children or those you work with to learn how to overcome unhelpful behaviour patterns, improve motivation, memory, concentration, organisation, confidence, critical judgement, reduce stress and help minimise specific learning problems, such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADD, ADHD to autistic spectrum disorders.

During the course participants will have the opportunity to experience Brain  Gym for themselves and practise with others. The course begins by exploring  ways to integrate left and right sides of the body in the visual, auditory and movement areas using Brain Gym, leading  to greater ease in activities that involve crossing the midline such as reading, writing, listening, movement and daily life skills. Further aspects of the course concentrate on communication, organisation and comprehension skills.

How Brain Gym works:

New brain research shows that the brain is plastic and brain wiring can be altered at any age. Neurologists have shown that physical movement actually changes the neural wiring in many areas of the brain. Brain Gym uses a combination of simple physical, visual and mental exercises which seem to operate by enabling the brain to more accurately interpret how it experiences the world through the senses, allowing new skills and abilities to develop. Everyone can benefit, those with learning difficulties and the gifted alike.

The trainer:

Dr Buffy McClelland has 25 years experience of teaching practical skills to young adults at undergraduate, masters and doctoral level. She was director and chief scientist of a large geophysical research laboratory, and a lecturer in Environmental Earth Sciences, in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. Her metamorphosis into a Brain Gym Instructor occurred after a brain virus left her with severe acquired dyslexia, and severe difficulties in reading. After two years of struggle, she finally discovered Brain Gym, and quickly recovered her lost abilities. Inspired by this transformation, she trained as a Brain Gym Consultant then Instructor, and finally left Oxford University in 2003 to do Brain Gym full-time. She runs a thriving consultancy where she helps children and adults improve their lives in many ways, focusing mainly on children with learning difficulties, and trains teachers at schools and colleges how to use Brain Gym to help their pupils succeed and enjoy life.

I am available to run a three part short course at the location of your choosing for parents who want to help their children cope better at school. You will learn simple techniques to increase confidence, concentration, motivation, and reading, writing and mathematical skills.
